Every first Tuesday of the month is time for the Open Mic organised by the Singer Songwriter Cirkel Haarlem in Café Lokaal in Haarlem. The exception to the rule is January when it is on the second Tuesday.
Lucas van Rens took the extra week to prepare a great set. Starting on piano and continuing with guitar and loop station! Gwan Brandhorst worked together with Judith Wesselius, giving her a break in de second song.
Rob Wtenweerde translated Chasing Cars into Dutch. By not creating a word by word translation, but focussing on the subject it became a great version. Mark Werkman choose to play all his classics in the coming months and tonight was the first set. This was the planned part of the evening during which more musicians had a chat with host Jasper Schalks and claimed a slot.
Boris de Jong is not a traditional singer/songwriter. He is a singer looking for a band! Short of a few fellow musicians Boris did showcase his vocal skills by doing an acapella version of a piece he recently wrote for an ensemble. Anneke did not plan play and couldn’t let the opportunity pass and did two covers and an original.
It has been a while since their last performance, but the improvised improvisation band To The Wolves was back in full force with Gwan, Joost Verhagen, Boris, Gerrit Eijkelboom, Niels van der Weiden (piano & vocal) and Martijn Comes on the egg shaker.
