The thirteenth edition of the Singer songwriter Cirkel Haarlem Open Mic Night at café Briljant was a cozy one. It started around the piano with Jan Willlem Reitsma who played the kazoo at the same time. Fons Stam shared a great collection of hilarious songs about relationships, divorce and dark pleasures. Jan Willem supported him on trumpet. Hilin Düyü is used to have a band behind her as singer of 3rd Floor Magic. Tonight was her third time to perform all by herself! Dan German wrote a pile of brand new sad songs. Gwan Brandhorst covered ‘Where Did You Sleep Last Night’ by Lead Belly. The lines
“In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don’t ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through”
felt extra cold as Jan Willem added a sound of a chilling biting wind. Gwan and Judith Wesselius did a Cohen song together which fell a few words short of half a novel. Sarah Koolhaas, lead singer of The Mafficks, did her first solo performance on guitar! The evening was presented by Anouk.
