On May 21st, 2016 it was a global March Against Monsanto Day. The event in Amsterdam was between a Falung Dung and a Palistine demonstration. Also money was collected for cancer research.
Before it started there was a meditation session lead by Tosca Flora. After which Frank van Schaik presented the program on the main stage. First there was music by the band Traveling Rebel who opened for the first speaker Herman van Bekkem, Greenpeace. He discussed what the impact would be of TTIP on our food and gave an update on the European decision about glysphosate. Glyphosate is the main ingredient of the weedkiller RoundUp. Gerindo Kartadinata informed us about the the upcoming Monsanto Tribunal and how the freetrade agreements between Colombia and the US impacted the farmers in Columbia. Tosca Flora spoke about the possibilities to farm without pesticide. Scato van Opstall explained the various healthy productmarks we find on our food today. As they come from the industry they are useless and should be ignored. Retired professor Healthcare Ivan Wolffers explain why we are not compatible with the food that is offered us today. Fanfare van de Eerste Liefdesnacht (Orchestra of the First Lovenight) warmed everbody up before the march.
