Houtfestival June 18, 2017

The Houtnacht is the warmup for the Houtfestival, a festival with world music and world food, like cupcakes from Amsterdam, chickpeas fries and great dishes from Cambodia. To make you move, emotionally and physically, bands and musicians gave their best. The three stages are spaced well apart and there is only music at one stage at the time. The local New Harlem Deluxe bigband started the festival in style, followed by the Ornina Ensemble. This is a group of Syrian and Iraqi musicians who met in The Netherlands and bring classic Arabic music. They were both performing in the tent at 30 degrees Celcius and outside on the media stage in more comfortable conditions. Dutch guitarist Zea and Ethiopian Afework Nigussie make great music together. They play different string instruments and that blends so well. If they perform in you area, just check them out. The Corona Band brings the warm sounds of Surinam. Iranian Mahsa Vahdat sings beautiful poems. It doesn’t mater if they were written 50 years ago or 700, they are still relevant.

If you feel like you missed some great music, do not despair! The concertzender recorded many artists.
